The Crypto Finance Group, a leading digital asset enabler for the finance sector, reinforces its leadership team with the appointment of Rupertus Rothenhaeuser as CEO of their Brokerage, effective 15 December 2020. In addition, Patrick Heusser takes up the role of Head of Trading, and is joined by new team members in preparation for the anticipated securities house license, client offering expansion and new trading platform features.
The Crypto Finance Group announces the appointment of Rupertus Rothenhaeuser as CEO of their Brokerage, effective 15 December 2020. Previously on the Executive Board at SIX Digital Exchange (SDX), Rupertus will take up the Brokerage CEO role from founder Jan Brzezek, who continues as CEO of Crypto Finance AG. Early into the market with a professional crypto trading and liquidity platform, the Crypto Finance Group is the leading digital asset enabler for financial institutions in both Switzerland and abroad.
“Rupertus Rothenhaeuser brings a rare combination of financial sector and technology expertise with an outstanding track record in institutional client relationship management,” says Jan Brzezek, founder and CEO of the Crypto Finance Group. “As the catalyst for our market awareness and trading operations development, we are very happy to have him join the team.”
Rupertus has a multi-decade background in the financial markets, forged at EUREX as an options and futures market maker. He drove early adoption in the rising global retail structured product market in Europe and Asia with BNP Paribas; and he led the setup of Boerse Stuttgart cats GmbH, the world’s leading OTC platform for retail structured products. He brings experience from previous roles in London, Paris, Hong Kong, and Germany. Having helped to build the start-up SIX Digital Exchange (SDX) as the first regulated exchange and CSD for digital assets, Rupertus will champion innovative digital asset services for the Crypto Finance Group’s diverse banking clients.
“I am excited to join the leadership team at the Crypto Finance Group at this pivotal time: to lead the business growth, expand our offering, and take the unique operational platform that the team has built to the next level,” Rupertus Rothenhaeuser said on his appointment as CEO.

The appointment in the management team comes as Senior Trader Patrick Heusser takes up the role of Head of Trading from Simon Tobler, who built up and established the market-leading crypto trading operations since it was founded in July 2017. In addition, Sara Frei has joined the Brokerage Team as Sales Execution Trader. She brings significant Swiss and Asian brokerage experience to the group having been with leading brokerage houses, including Tullett Prebon and Tradition, where she specialised in traditional FX and interest rate swaps across both major and emerging markets. Mike Schwitalla also joined on 1 December. He will apply his experience with quant and algorithmic approaches, FX spot and derivatives trading, and strategy development in Switzerland and Germany, to expand the Crypto Finance Group’s brokerage offering. Together, these developments strengthen the Group’s brokerage business in preparation for the expected securities house license from the Swiss Financial Market Authority and the new services soon to be offered on its execution platform.
This growth for the Crypto Finance Group is coming as new institutional investment in the crypto asset markets makes headlines, most notably the recent major bitcoin investments by publicly listed companies Square and MicroStrategy, and asset manager Stone Ridge Holdings. Citing inflation-hedge investment approaches with bitcoin as a primary treasury reserve asset and corporate capital allocation, this brought significant institutional and corporate attention to the crypto markets.Read more
